Guide from the official docs
Which websites block AI agents (and why)
JPMorgan Chase, Amazon, Yelp, Delta and others limit AI agents such as Muse; Walmart opens an official agent route with terms. What each said, why, and what it means for you.
This guide follows the official docs and announcements, linked inline. AideDex did not test these products and does not score them. How we check facts.
Last checked Oct 23, 2026. This guide only lists what a company confirmed, or what a news outlet reported with a company statement: blocks, and in some cases the policies a company pointed to. Social media complaints are marked as reports, not facts. Policies are changing week to week, so check the linked articles before you rely on any of this.

Banks: JPMorgan Chase and Charles Schwab
On JPMorgan’s Oct 13 earnings call, CEO Jamie Dimon said the bank won’t let “just any … outside agent” into customer accounts “because it’s just too risky for clients and for JPMorgan” (CNBC). A spokeswoman told CNBC the bank currently blocks external agents from operating on behalf of retail customers: “we do not permit third parties to access accounts by obtaining customers’ banking credentials and logging in on their behalf” (CNBC).
What still works: per CNBC, if Plaid or another open-banking connector has the user’s credentials, agents can get read-only Chase data such as balances. They can’t send money or pay a bill. The bank gave no timeline for allowing that (CNBC).
The Verge reports that Charles Schwab has also confirmed it blocks AI agents from accessing accounts over security concerns (The Verge).
Amazon
Amazon began blocking Muse in September. Muse users saw a popup saying “continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon’s Conditions of Use” (The Verge). An Amazon spokesperson said apps that buy from other businesses for customers “should operate openly and respect service provider decisions about whether or not to participate” (The Verge). GeekWire, as cited by The Verge, reported that Amazon raised privacy and security concerns about Muse not identifying itself when it browses and “seemingly capturing customer credentials” (The Verge).
There are also reports that xAI’s Grok, OpenAI’s Dots and Instinct’s agent can’t use Amazon, but these come from posts on X, not company statements (The Verge).
This follows Amazon’s dispute with Perplexity. Amazon banned Perplexity’s agentic shopping feature and sued in November 2025. A judge ordered Perplexity to stop its agents from shopping on Amazon. The Verge reports that an appeals court overturned that ruling in August 2026 and that Amazon has since filed an amended complaint (The Verge). Perplexity has argued that Amazon keeps agents off its site to protect human ad views; the cited sources report this as Perplexity’s argument (The Verge).
Travel and local: Delta, United, Yelp
Delta told TechCrunch it is taking steps to protect customers from unauthorized automated activity and “does not currently have a partnership or integration that enables a third-party AI agent to shop for or book Delta flights” (TechCrunch). United pointed to its Terms of Use, which bar using any “robot, spider, other automatic device, or manual process” to monitor or copy the site, or for any other unauthorized purpose, without United’s prior written permission. United didn’t respond to a follow-up question about whether it blocks specific personal AI agents (TechCrunch).
Yelp said it doesn’t permit non-human traffic unless the agent pays for its data licensing program. Per TechCrunch, an agent without a Yelp partnership will likely fail to get a quote, join a waitlist or book a table there (TechCrunch).
Walmart: an official route, with terms
On Oct 21, 2026 Walmart announced three things for agents shopping Walmart and Sam’s Club for a customer (Walmart):
- Agent Profiles, “launching in the next month”. Today an agent signs in with the customer’s own account, so its purchases are mixed in with yours. A profile gives each agent its own place in your account, so its orders show separately. You choose whether to approve every purchase or let the agent buy within a spending limit you set (Walmart’s examples: $50, $100 or $200), and you can delete a profile at any time. Walmart says the first time an agent shops through the Gateway it creates the profile automatically, and you link it by signing in to your Walmart account.
- Walmart Agent Gateway, an MCP server that Walmart says will give agents a faster, more reliable way to shop than a website built for people. It will begin as a beta for companies and developers. Walmart says the Gateway will help an agent find your usual items without sharing your personal information or purchase history with the agent.
- Terms for AI agents. Customers must approve agent purchases by default, and Walmart may ask for extra approval even within a spending limit. Agents must not act beyond what you intend, don’t get your payment-card details and can’t add or change payment methods, and may access only what the task needs and you allow. Walmart’s returns process applies if an agent doesn’t act as intended. “Agents that do not follow these terms will be blocked from Walmart’s site.”
Walmart says an agent sees the same prices a person sees on Walmart.com. It did not name which agents will use the Gateway first.
Not always on purpose: anti-bot checks
Some failures are side effects. Before its Oct 21 announcement, Walmart, a Muse partner, told TechCrunch that users hitting a failing human-verification button when an agent drives the page was not intentional (TechCrunch). Walmart now describes browser shopping by agents as “slow and error-prone” and is building the Agent Gateway as the alternative (Walmart). Zillow said it allows agents acting for consumers, but its anti-scraping tools could block some (TechCrunch).
Some people suspect Cloudflare’s Sept 15 change to crawler defaults. Cloudflare told TechCrunch it had no specific data to share on personal agent blocking (TechCrunch).
Users have also named Cars.com, Amtrak, Adidas, Pizza Hut and others. These are reports, not confirmed policies (The Verge, TechCrunch).
Why companies block agents
From the statements above, the stated reasons fall into four groups:
- Security and credentials. JPMorgan says agents logging in with customer credentials is “not safe” (CNBC). Amazon raised credential and identification concerns (The Verge).
- Liability. Dimon said agent users “should understand there’s a liability transfer” (CNBC).
- Control and terms. Amazon and United point to their terms of use (The Verge, TechCrunch). Walmart has published its own terms for agents and says agents that break them will be blocked (Walmart).
- Paid data access. Yelp lets in only agents that license its data (TechCrunch).
Meta’s view is the opposite: “Turning away a personal agent means turning away the customer behind it” (Meta).
What it means if you use an agent
- Expect failures on some big sites. A failed booking or checkout may be a block, not a bug in your agent (TechCrunch).
- Prefer partner routes. Meta has partnered with Walmart, Gap, Sephora, Best Buy and others for Muse, and Shopify has opened its storefronts to agents (The Verge). Muse keeps a list of connectors in the app (TechCrunch).
- Chase accounts: read-only for now. Chase blocks outside agents from operating your accounts. Read-only balance data may reach agents through Plaid or another connector; they can’t send money or pay bills. The bank gave no timeline for change (CNBC).
- Watch your accounts. Some users said eBay suspended their accounts over agent use, and Reddit posts say Google flagged accounts used with Muse. These are user reports (TechCrunch, The Verge).
- Approvals. Meta says Muse will seek your approval before signing in, completing a reservation or making a purchase (Meta).

What may change: a standard for agents
On Oct 6, Meta previewed the Personal Agent Protocol, an open standard it is developing with Sierra, Genesys, NiCE, Decagon, Rocket, Shopify, Stripe and Walmart. It covers how personal agents prove who the user is, how businesses steer agents to preferred flows or APIs, and how personal agents talk to business agents (Meta). Meta says it will be open for anyone to implement. No release date was given.
FAQ
Can an AI agent access my Chase account?
Not to act for you. JPMorgan blocks outside agents from operating on behalf of retail customers. Agents can read some data, like balances, through Plaid or another connector, but can’t send money or pay bills (CNBC).
Why can’t Meta Muse shop on Amazon?
Amazon blocked it in September. Users saw a message that “continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon’s Conditions of Use” (The Verge).
Does Walmart block AI agents?
Walmart says agents that don’t follow its terms for AI agents “will be blocked from Walmart’s site”. On Oct 21, 2026 it announced those terms together with Agent Profiles (launching in the next month, with approval or a spending limit you set) and an MCP-based Agent Gateway starting as a beta for companies and developers (Walmart). Earlier failed checkouts, where a human-verification button failed for agents, were not intentional, Walmart told TechCrunch (TechCrunch).
Can I set a spending limit for an AI agent on Walmart?
Walmart says yes, once Agent Profiles launch (it said “in the next month” on Oct 21, 2026). You can require approval for every purchase or let the agent buy within a limit you set, and delete the profile at any time (Walmart).
Can an AI agent book a Delta flight?
Delta says it has no partnership or integration that lets a third-party agent shop for or book Delta flights on its digital platforms (TechCrunch).
Is there a standard that lets websites approve AI agents?
One is in development. Meta and partners including Sierra, Shopify, Stripe and Walmart previewed the Personal Agent Protocol on Oct 6, 2026 (Meta).
