Safety (as stated by the vendor)
6 rows
| Fact | Hermes Agent | Meta Muse |
|---|---|---|
| Data it can access | Hermes Agent: Whatever the operator's user account can reach on the host, plus connected messaging, email and MCP servers. Provider API keys and gateway tokens are stripped from shell/MCP/cron subprocesses by default, but skills and plugins can read in-process credentials. github.com · checked | Meta Muse: You choose which connectors Muse uses and how much access (e.g. read-only email vs send); many connectors can be read-only. Disconnect any time in Settings > Connectors; data already used may remain in memories and chat history. meta.com · checked |
| Asks before sensitive actions | Hermes Agent: Yes Dangerous shell commands need explicit approval (approvals.mode smart|manual|off; cron/unattended default deny). SECURITY.md calls the gate a heuristic, not a security boundary. hermes-agent.nousresearch.com · checked | Meta Muse: Yes Checks before sending an email or making a purchase. about.fb.com · checked |
| Sees your passwords | Hermes Agent: Not stated | Meta Muse: No Credentials go to secure storage; Muse "has no visibility into people’s passwords or payment methods". about.fb.com · checked |
| Trains on your data | Hermes Agent: Not clearly stated Hermes is self-hosted; training depends on the model provider you connect. Nous Portal's privacy policy says inference payloads may be used for training unless you enable Privacy Mode. portal.nousresearch.com · checked | Meta Muse: Yes, unless you opt out Training setting "is on when you first use Muse"; turn off in Settings > Data controls. Also applies to previous interactions. meta.com · checked |
| Isolation | Hermes Agent: Default terminal backend runs commands directly on the host; Docker, SSH, Modal and Singularity backends sandbox shell/file tools. Only OS-level isolation (Docker image or NVIDIA OpenShell wrapping the whole process) is a real boundary per SECURITY.md. github.com · checked | Meta Muse: Dedicated cloud VM (Muse Secure VM) per person: the agent runs in an isolated container, credentials are stored outside it, and a separate Sentinel agent must approve connector actions and all network egress. research.meta.ai · checked |
| Retention | Hermes Agent: Conversations, memories and skills are stored locally and kept when the agent stops. Keep a backup of your Hermes data directory when moving to another computer. hermes-agent.nousresearch.com · checked | Meta Muse: Chats, files, memories, goals and reminders are kept in your VM until you delete them; Reset Muse permanently deletes all of it. After deletion Muse may still remember what it learned. You can download your Muse data. meta.com · checked |
